With the release of Animal Crossing New: Horizons’ 2.0 update, players now have the ability to unlock everyone’s favorite pigeon, Brewster, and his coffee shop, The Roost. However, many players have found the process of unlocking Brewster to be somewhat unclear, especially if they haven’t played the game in a while. Here’s a guide to unlocking Brewster as soon as possible!

Prerequisites for Unlocking Brewster and The Roost

There are a few steps you’ll need to complete in order to unlock the ability to bring Brewster and The Roost to your island.

Step 1: Build Your Museum and Add the Art Wing

The first step to unlocking Brewster and The Roost is building your Museum. You’ll need the actual Museum building and not just Blathers’ tent in order to complete this requirement.

You’ll then need to make sure you build the Art Wing for the Museum. Don’t worry about completing the collection for the Art Wing, just make sure it’s built.

Step 2: Donate One of Every Type of Specimen to the Museum

The next step in order to unlock Brewster is to donate one of every type of specimen to the Museum. You’ll need:

  • 1 Fish
  • 1 Bug
  • 1 Fossil
  • 1 Art Piece
  • 1 Sea Creature

You only need one of each type of donation in order to complete this step. Once you collect them, hand them over to Blathers.

Step 3: Get a 3-Star Island Rating

The third step you need to complete before you can unlock Brewster is getting at least a 3-Star Island Rating. To check what your current Island Rating is, you can go chat with Isabelle in Resident Services and ask her about it. If K.K. Slider visits your island, you’ve already completed this step.

How to Get Brewster and The Roost in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Now that you’ve completed the necessary prerequisites, you can start working to get Brewster to come to your island.

Step 1: Talk to Blathers

First, you’ll need to go to the Museum. If you’ve successfully completed all the steps above, Blathers should have a little thought bubble above his head. Talk to him, and he will tell you about Brewster. He will also provide you with Brewster’s Picture.

Step 2: Go to a Kapp’n Island to Find Brewster

Next, you’ll need to go talk to Kapp’n to travel to an island to find Brewster. However, if you’ve already been to an island with Kapp’n today, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to do so (or you could time travel…).

Once you’re on the island, Brewster shouldn’t be too hard to find. He’ll be wandering around like villagers do on the Dodo Airlines Island Tours. Tell Brewster that Blathers is looking for him, and he’ll come to your island.

Brewster will not appear on the Kapp’n island you visit if you did not talk to Blathers about going to find him first, however, so make sure that you don’t skip Step 1 above.

Step 3: Tell Brewster You Found Blathers

Once you get back to your island, go to the Museum and inform Blathers that you found Brewster. Blathers will tell you that the Museum will be closed tomorrow for construction to prepare for Brewster’s arrival.

Step 4: Wait for Construction of The Roost

The Museum will be closed for a day while construction of The Roost is taking place. To speed up this process and get your caffeine fix sooner, you can time travel and skip the wait.

Step 5: Visit The Roost

A day later, the Museum will reopen, and Brewster will be ready to serve you and your friends coffee at The Roost.

Congratulations on unlocking Brewster and the Roost for your island!
